Laura Roden

In her formative, Laura Roden studied and experimented with a variety of media, including drawing in pencil and in ink, zinc plate etching, weaving, jewelry making, woodblock printing and ceramics. One of her etchings made in high school was selected for the annual Advanced Placement Exam Exhibit in Princeton, NJ.

During college Laura took courses in visual arts and architectural design, for a time considering architecture as a career. She also did freelance jobs in advertising illustration and graphic design for local businesses, and cartography for a series of travel guides.

In her post collegiate years Laura continued to explore new media as time and resources allowed, including photography, painting on and weaving with animal hides, and most recently, carving on stone and brick. Since moving to Aiken she has shown her work in the following venues:
• Aiken Center for the Arts Main Gallery (jewelry)
• North August Arts & Heritage Center (mixed media; photography)
• Aiken Fish House and Oyster Bar (ceramics; photography)

She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Aiken Artist Guild.

Over the years Laura has traveled extensively seeking unique, remote and beautiful places, particularly islands, and the photographs shown here are representative of this area of her interests.
