Mary McCullah

In our busy lives we so often are unable to see the beauty that surrounds us in the natural world;  neither listening to the twitter of birds, smelling the sweet scent of flowers on the breeze, or simply feeling the peace of high vistas, secluded forests, or our own backyard.  My connection to nature has been with me since I can remember so it seems natural to express this through painting.  Whether in acrylic or watercolor, the challenge is then to draw the viewer into my world using color, texture, movement and mystery.  I choose to express my inner feelings through the visual arts in hopes that the end result will elicit a smile, a memory, or the desire to see what awaits you.”

Born in MO and living throughout the US, Mary has worked closely with zoos and nature preserves giving conservation related programs and doing hands on with animals including gray wolves and birds of prey. These experiences provided valuable inspiration for her work.

Painting primarily in watercolor and acrylic, the award winning artist ‘s work is included in private and corporate collections in the US and Canada.  Mary has exhibited at such venues as the Aiken Center for the Arts, the North Augusta Art and Heritage Center, the Greenwood Festival of Flowers, South Carolina State Fair, and the South Carolina Watermedia Society’s Exhibit.

Mary’s work has been shown in two solo exhibits at the Aiken Center for the Arts. She was selected as artist in residence at Cheraw State Park and Poinsett State Park.   “I wanted to spend more time with the nature of my new southern home. My experiences were extremely valuable and delightful giving me time to explore both painting and the natural world of the South.” she explains.
