Debbie Bruce

Debbie Bruce was born in Hammond, Indiana. During her childhood, she was not exposed to art and therefore had no inkling if she possessed any artistic passion or ability. She moved to Aiken in 1977 and later began a 30-year career at the Savannah River Site. During her free time, she began exploring various mediums of art and decided to start a part-time business making jewelry. However, after several years of competing with the lesser quality, mass-produced imported jewelry, she closed her jewelry business. She once again began trying out other mediums and found that she thoroughly enjoyed acrylics, tried but was unsuccessful at watercolors, but then stumbled upon paper quilling, sometimes referred to as "painting with paper." Debbie felt that she had finally found what she was looking for. She now belongs to the North American Quilling Guild and looks forward to their annual conference, where she can spend time with like-minded individuals who share her passion for twirling little strips of paper.

Debbie is an active member of the Aiken arts community and participates in numerous art shows in the area. She sells her whimsical paper quilled pieces at the Little Red Fox Shop and also teaches beginner quilling to help promote this centuries-old art form.
