I have always loved art. As I have grown older and felt the need to create somethings that might please the eye of family members and then other people, I turned to carving. I would say that after that I decided that 3 dimensional things are what really speak to me. I pretty much am a self taught wood carver. But I will claim many artists as my teachers through their books, and their works that I have seen in galleries.

Since I retired, I have bought the tools I need and went to work. Interesting to me, I have never really though about selling my work. And it is mostly family members who have ever received any of my work to display. However, the selling part of my work is going to change soon.

I especially  like to carve birds, that I hang from the ceiling, so that the wings are shown, and the birds are free to move, and look as if they are flying. And I like relief carving, and the challenge of showing the depth of the subject. I have carved two pieces showing the depth and layers of the Grand Canyon.

Other work I enjoy doing is to make mobiles. Calder is a great inspiration to me. I also like carving small animals that one sees around our yard.
